Flood Operations for Emergency Planners and Workers (FOEPW)

The Flood Operations (formerly Flood Operations for Emergency Planners and Workers) course has been designed in conjunction with local government agencies with the aim of providing their Emergency Planners & Workers with the necessary knowledge and techniques to enable them to assess and work in flood environments.

 

Course length:

2 days

 

Course content includes:

  • Hydrology & water hazards
  • Flood theory & dynamics
  • Working near, on or in-water – H&S considerations & risk management
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Rescue protocols
  • Defensive swimming & self-rescue
  • Shout & reach rescues
  • Use of throwlines
  • Shallow water crossing techniques for flood access & evacuation
  • Use of boats for flood evacuation

 

Prerequisites:

 

  • Must be a confident swimmer
  • Minimum age: 18
